Time to Worship!
Lesson
"He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left."
2 Chronicles 34: 2
Josiah was the king of the Israelites and what made him special was that when he was only 8 years old and even though he was just a boy, he ruled the entire region of Judea.
But Josiah’s father had a big problem. The people did not like him and he did not follow God at all, also did many kings before him, they ignored God and made idols [it is an image or thing that people worship as gods] various places to worship them and many of the families would not pay any attention to God. But Josiah was different.
At the age of 16 he began to follow God and looked for ways to obey Him and then discovered that all those gods stole the worship of God and decided to remove those gods and a few years later he was very focused on worshiping God and built a beautiful temple to God.
While rebuilding the temple, they found the Book of God in the Temple. Josiah could not believe that the holy book had been found and was filled with the word of God.
When Josiah began to read everything in the book, Josiah realized how greatly the people had sinned and disobeyed God. Josiah felt so bad that he tore his clothing as a sign of pain and cried at the thought of how angry God would be with them.
Josiah sent to ask a prophet [prophets were people that spoke to God and God to them] if there was any chance that God would forgive them. The prophet said that the people were going to be punished because they had sinned. But if he sought God and asked for forgiveness and began to follow God, God was going to forgive him.
Josiah sent all the people to the temple and in front of all of them he promised to follow God. While Josiah was King, people wanted to be like King Josiah and obey God.
Josiah destroyed all the idols that were in the houses and burned them, removed everything that stole the worship of God.
There was never a king like Josiah who obeyed God with all his heart and strength. This 8-year-old king who despite being a boy was the best king they could have. All because he loved and obeyed God.
Questions...
- How old was the king when he began to rule?
- What wrong did the King’s father do?
- What was found in the temple?
- What did God like about Josiah?
- What did Josiah do in order for God to forgive him?
Repeat this prayer...
I think you Lord for your word. Thank you for the story of King Josiah whom has taught me that it is necessary to turn away from other things that take away from me making time to worship you. Please help me be obedient and passionate like King Josiah. Please forgive my sins and any other sins that my parents or my past generations have made against you. You are now my God and I love you very much. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
