To Serve Others (10-13 años)

¡Tiempo de cantar y adorar!

Lesson

"I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."

John 13:15

Jesus knew that it would soon be time for him to return to heaven, but he had not finished teaching his friends everything they needed to know. So he planned a very special dinner for his 12 closest friends called the “disciples.” Disciples means followers of Jesus. Everyone who has decided to follow Jesus is a disciple and friend, including you and me.

So Jesus was sitting at the table eating with his friends, that dinner was called the LAST SUPPER because it was the last meal they would eat together with Jesus before he died on the cross.

During the meal, Jesus left them very calm and took a bucket of water and a towel, put it under the floor and began to wash the disciples’ feet. This was a good thing that Jesus did because long ago people walked without shoes and without sandals, they probably stood on dirty things and perhaps even stepped on camel poop. Jesus washed their dirty and sweaty feet. This may sound like Jesus really didn’t like dirty feet, but what Jesus really wanted to teach his disciples was how they should serve others, to act like him.

Jesus came to earth to serve all people, even if it meant helping to clean dirty feet, because Jesus believed in serving others. Do you think you can teach someone how Jesus acted?

Well after that Jesus had something else to teach his disciples. Since Jesus knew that his disciples would probably have a very hard time acting like him, Jesus told them that he would send them a special helper called the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit would help his friends to act like him. The Holy Spirit continues to help Jesus’ friends to this day, so the Holy Spirit is there to help you and me to be more like Jesus so we can serve others, just like Jesus did.

I thank you Lord Jesus for teaching me to serve others and for leaving the Holy Spirit to help and guide me. Please help me be more like you, help me to resemble you more and more each day. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
